The same 4 mistakes get made in almost every episode. 1. An overly complex battle plan with too many elements 2. Failure to present a solid battle line 3. Underestimating the difficulty of manoeuvring mid-battle 4. Overreacting to enemy movements It's like von Clausewitz said - "War is simple, but in war the simplest things become very difficult"

THIS battle showcases the resiliency and combat effectiveness of veteran Roman legions. Even with the most incompetent command, command incompetent enough to have them facing the wrong way in the middle of a battle, they still have a chance to prevail.

Stopping a cavalry charge in front of archers @11:20 is the worst blunder I saw. Had they not stopped, the cavalry would've mowed them down like grass! Cavalry attacking pikeman is also suicidal but they did achieve surprise by attacking from the rear.

The captains did a brilliant job, and the basic strategy; to focus on one flank and destroy it before the other forms up, was solid. They failed to support their cavalry properly, but that's a common rookie mistake. Not a bad action by the team here.
