From what I gather from Suits, most of what lawyers do is walk into someone's office, threaten to totally wreck and bankrupt them, and walk out with a check.

I work in a law-adjacent field and the time thing…phew. I had a member of the public ask me when such and such financial issue would be resolved by the court. I said the best estimate was 6 months to a year and they gasped and said “Why so long?” I just chuckled and said “By legal standards that’s no time at all.”

It's kind of like how in House MD, Dr House is a pathologist, nephrologist, and infectious disease doctor. So somehow he did a whole pathology residency, an IM residency, and two fellowships (infectious disease and nephrology) Not to mention Dr Chase being a jack of all trades surgeon who mostly does diagnostic medicine

Its kind of like forensic analysis in csi or similar shows. Takes months to get results, but it doesnt make for great tv.

Just like cop and firerighter shows, do not try to learn anything about the system they are portraying. It's just a drama show with a thin veneer and flavoring of whatever the Network thinks will attract eyes.
